Smith's Import Service Center has the expertise to troubleshoot the cause of your check engine light / service engine soon light using state of the art scan tools, test equipment, and computer based information systems. But what many auto owners aren't aware of is that this is one of the most difficult areas of a vehicle to understand and repair. Diagnostics isn't as simple as plugging in an inexpensive code reader, obtaining a fault code, and bolting on a new part. Reading a fault code is actually just the first step.

Let us properly troubleshoot your vehicle's issues instead of just replacing a component based on an error code and hoping it solves the problem.

Car won't start? Let Smith's Import Service Center test your battery and analyze your car's starting and charging systems.  Whether its a faulty starter, bad alternator, a dead battery, something in the fuse box, or a wiring problem, there's no guesswork involved when we troubleshoot your vehicle's electrical system.

We follow the manufacturer's recommendations to the letter, ensuring that we arrive at the cause of your complaint without replacing any unnecessary components.

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM SERVICE

TERMS:

A/C repair

air conditioner

recharge

refrigerant

heating core

It used to be that you could just buy a can of refrigerant and recharge your car's air conditioning system in the driveway. These days, purchasing a kit from an auto parts or department store and trying it yourself is more likely to damage a modern A/C system than restore its function.

Have Smith's Import Service Center determine the cause of your problem and relax knowing that your air conditioner repair is being performed by trained, certified professionals who will stand behind their work.

TIMING BELT SERVICE

TERMS:

timing belt

serpentine belt

timing chains

water pump

tensioner

rollers

engine oil seals

drive belt

While many engine designs now incorporate timing chains rather than timing belts, some brands (VW and Audi for instance) still use a timing belt which MUST be replaced per the manufacturers' recommendations. This often includes replacing other parts which work in conjunction with the belt, such as the water pump, timing belt tensioner and rollers, engine oil seals on some models, and drive belt.

Failure to replace a timing belt at the appropriate time can cause serious engine damage, even effectively totaling an older vehicle in otherwise decent condition. While it may seem like a sizeable investment, it's the one service that's going to assure your vehicle keeps going well beyond the 100K mile mark.

MAINTENANCE

TERMS:

spark plugs

cabin filter

fuel filter

coolant

Depending on mileage, maintenance of your vehicle might include the replacing spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, windshield wiper blades, transmission fluid, differential fluid, driveline fluids, brake fluid, radiator coolant, timing belt, and drive belts, as well as oil change & oil filter services. Smith's Import Service Center also inspects your brakes, suspension, and steering systems, exhaust system, electrical system, and the electronic engine management system on some models.

In a nutshell, we perform all the maintenance items outlined in your vehicle owner's manual. Well-maintained vehicles perform better and last longer!
